    George Bell was the 6th of 8 children born to Joseph Bell and Susannah Young (records at Square Chapel Independent Church in Halifax England - a non conformist church).
    He was tried in Wakefield on 17 January 1828 and sentenced to 7 years i.e.from the West Riding Quarter Sessions Indictment Book (January 1828-April 1829, Reference QS4/60) for George Bell: Wakefield Sessions 17 January 1828.Puts Guilty - To be Transported for the term of seven years. Witnesses: James Crosland,Benjamin Wood,John Platford, Thomas Wrigley. "And that George Bell late of Wakefield, in the West Riding of the County of York, Labourer on the thirteenth Day of November in the eighth year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord George the Fourth by the Grace of God the Defender of the Faith, with Force and Arms at the Parish of Huddersfield in the West Riding of the County of York, twenty yards of Canvas Wrapper of the value of ten shillings of the Goods and Chattels of one Samuel Clay then and there found did then and there feloniously steal, take and carry away against the Peace of our said Lord the King, his Crown and Dignity." He arrived in Australia Nov 18 1828 on the "Eliza 111" Convict Indent No: 159 670 398 described as: 4ft 11 1/2inches aged 16 years no education single, no children, employed as a farm boy in Halifax Yorkshire England. He had served a previous sentence of 2 years He had hazel eyes. He was assigned to John Brown of Upper Minto.
    He gained his Certificate of Freedom No:36/0210 on 11th April 1836. He married Mary Ann McCormick on 28 October 1837 at St.Peter, Campbelltown NSW Australia . Married in the Church by Banns with consent of the Governor. George was a farmer. The family at some stage moved to Mount Pleasant Estate at Bathurst,their daughter Susan was married from there in1855, his daughter Sarah in 1859 and Son Frederick in 1862 Daughter Mary Ann in 1863 and son George married in Bathurst 1865 .
    They later moved to the Dubbo area. He died aged 86 years from Senile Decay having spent 71 years in NSW. Mary,his wife, died in 1879 at Eschol near Dubbo - 16 years before George.
    George was buried in the Church of England Section, Plot 150. There is no map indicating this location.
